PRACTICE INFORMATION & GUIDANCE

Frequently Asked Questions

Starting therapy is an important decision. Below are answers to common questions about consultations, scheduling, fees, and working together. If you have additional questions, please reach out directly.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. I offer a complimentary 15-minute telehealth consultation. This gives us an opportunity to discuss what brings you to therapy, answer any questions you may have, and determine whether we may be a good fit to work together.

Do you accept insurance?

No. I do not participate directly with insurance plans.

If your insurance plan includes out-of-network mental health benefits, I can provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. Because coverage and reimbursement rates vary widely, I encourage you to contact your insurance provider directly to understand your out-of-network benefits before beginning treatment.

Many clients choose private-pay therapy because it offers greater privacy, flexibility, and autonomy in treatment. Insurance companies often require a mental health diagnosis and may place limitations on the type, frequency, or duration of treatment they will cover. Working outside of insurance allows therapy to be guided by your clinical needs and goals rather than by insurance requirements.

What does therapy cost?

Fees will be discussed prior to your first appointment. This allows us to review the current fee schedule and answer any questions you may have about payment and policies.

What payment methods do you accept?

Payment is due at the time of service. I accept most major credit cards, as well as Venmo and Zelle.

How long are therapy sessions?

Most individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes in length. Longer sessions may be available when clinically appropriate and scheduling permits.

How often should I attend therapy?

For most clients, weekly sessions are recommended at the beginning of treatment. Weekly therapy helps build momentum, establish a strong therapeutic relationship, and support meaningful progress.

As treatment progresses, sessions may become less frequent depending on your goals, progress, and clinical needs.

How long does therapy take?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer. The length of therapy depends on many factors, including the nature of your concerns, your goals, your history, the complexity of the issues being addressed, and how frequently we meet.

Some clients seek therapy to work through a specific challenge and may find a relatively short course of treatment helpful. Others choose longer-term therapy to address longstanding patterns, deepen self-understanding, improve relationships, or support ongoing personal growth.

We will regularly assess your progress and discuss your goals throughout the therapy process.

Can I combine in-person and telehealth sessions?

Yes. Many clients find that a combination of in-person and telehealth sessions provides flexibility while maintaining continuity of care. Hybrid scheduling is available, subject to appointment availability.

What is your cancellation policy?

I require at least 24 hours’ advance notice to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Appointments cancelled or rescheduled with less than 24 hours’ notice, as well as missed appointments, will be charged the full session fee.

What issues do you help clients with?

I work with adults experiencing a variety of concerns, including anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, life transitions, grief and loss, professional burnout, self-esteem challenges, and issues related to meaning, purpose, and personal growth.

What is your approach to therapy?

My approach is collaborative, practical, and tailored to the individual. Therapy is not about giving advice or telling you how to live your life. Rather, it is a process of developing greater insight, identifying obstacles, building new skills, and helping you move toward the life and relationships you want.

Is everything discussed in therapy confidential?

Confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. Information shared in sessions is kept private except in limited circumstances required by law, such as concerns involving an imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, suspected abuse or neglect of a child, dependent adult, or elder, or when disclosure is otherwise required by a court order or applicable law.

Confidentiality policies will be reviewed in detail before treatment begins.

How do I know if you’re the right therapist for me?

Research consistently shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is one of the strongest predictors of successful therapy. During our consultation and early sessions, we’ll explore whether working together feels like a good fit. Finding a therapist with whom you feel comfortable, understood, and respected is important.

How do I get started?

The first step is to schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation. We can discuss what brings you to therapy, answer your questions, and determine next steps together.

One More Thing…

Outside the therapy office, I enjoy spending time with my family, taking long walks with my dog, exploring the Santa Monica Mountains, reading, playing guitar, and occasionally telling a dad joke.

A few favorites:

How many therapists does it take to change a light bulb? Just one—but the light bulb has to really want to change.

A therapist tells a client, “I think you have a fear of commitment.” The client replies, “Maybe. Maybe not. I don’t want to label it yet.”
